The Hard Conversation

There is mounting evidence which will I believe confirm that the COVID-19 strategy being adopted by most countries is misguided and irresponsible. The number of deaths and the pressure on health services through poverty, unemployment, crime, drug abuse etc. will be far greater than those caused by the virus. The early predictions that millions and then hundreds of thousands were going to die have already been verified as wildly inaccurate. The best data coming from Stanford and Yale suggest that the deaths will be one in a thousand. Furthermore Dr John Ioannidis of Stanford claims that the majority of these deaths are older people in nursing homes or else front line health care workers. He also contends that 99% of those that die will have at least two underlying conditions. Statistics tell us that 2.9 million Americans die on average every year. They say you should always listen to your gut. Well with every fibre of my being my gut is telling me that this pandemic strategy is dangerous.  Nevertheless it has been adopted by virtually every country in the world with a few exceptions. I may be right. I may be wrong. But is there even any serious discussion taking place on this level. My concerns are – Is the strategy justified and when it’s all over will they give us back our freedoms. The WHO denied in late January that the virus could be transmitted human to human. Many now suggest that they were in league with the Chinese, trying to spin what was happening to accommodate the CCP. Recent information suggests that five million Chinese left Wuhan before they locked it down yet we hear that neither Beijing nor Shanghai were seriously affected. I told a friend of mine today that all these restrictions were driving me crazy. He responded By saying “ you didn’t have far to go then “. I was glad of a little humour in these depressing times. It appears to me that the mindless stupidity of the masses knows no bounds. Clearly nobody sat down and did a SWOT analysis of the various options available to us as a society. A wave of emotion inspired by the media and a variety of failed politicians have decided to burn down the house to save the pots and pans. This wasn’t their intention. They didn’t have one. In times of crises you need your leaders to step up as it were. Instead our leaders have made all the right noises about saving lives and then handed the reigns over to the so called medical experts. These are the same medical experts who couldn’t improve never mind fix the existing health services in their respective countries. I am writing this from a remote part of Nova Scotia on Cape Breton Island. There is nobody within 100 miles of here that has been identified as having contracted the Virus. Everything locally is shut bar the Food Store and the Drug Store. People are frightened and understandably so. They are at home on a constant diet of COVED – 19 threats, statistics and press briefings. Isn’t it great that we have so many experts. All you need is a microphone to be an expert these days. It’s a pity the expert leaders of the WHO didn’t recognise what was happening until it had gathered pace. Communism/socialism is based on total centralized control of the people. If they don’t conform they will either be taught the error of their ways by physical and emotional torture, confined to some kind of a hard labour camp or they will be removed without trace.
